Does Your Financial Mindset Serve You?

Windows on Finance Part 5

Today I want to explore our beliefs around money. As I said in an earlier article, there is no Money 101 course where we get our beliefs around money from, rather it seems to come as a form of osmosis from our personal life experiences (often as children observing the financial experience of our parents) and our perceptions of our parents and friends attitudes and beliefs around money. Maybe it’s what we believe is “common knowledge” or “everyone knows is true.” Maybe our beliefs make sense in terms of our life experience.

Are you disqualifying yourself from God’s true riches?

Windows on Finance Part 4

In Luke 16:11-12 Jesus makes a curious statement: “Therefore if you have not been faithful in the case of unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not proved faithful in that which belongs to another, whether God or man, who will give you that which is your own, that is, the true riches?” (Amplified Bible - emphasis mine)

mammon wants us to believe that riches, money and possessions are “true riches”. He wants us to trust in them (which is actually him). Jesus is saying that in reality, unrighteous mammon is deceitful or false riches and that it is God’s heart to give us true riches, but there is also a process to receive them.

Financial Foundations

Windows on Finance 3

Welcome back, we’re up to article three and it’s time to back the truck up and get some perspective on where all this is going. Yes I am going to share on tithing, on offerings, on receiving God’s abundant release and all those things, eventually. And yes I am an ardent believer in all of the above (in spite of my provocative article titles).

But if you’re going to build a building, the first thing you build is the foundations. Foundations are the part that is hidden underground and pretty much never seen, but without them the building will not last. In fact the bigger/higher the building, the deeper the foundations need to be. Tithing, offerings, etc are all the building. They are the parts we see, touch and feel. If I build the building of tithes and offerings etc without laying the foundations first, I’m doing you a major and potentially catastrophic disservice.
